Flood Appeal Raffle

I am sure you have heard about the devastating floods occurring in Queensland, Australia and other areas at the moment. There is nothing that I can say to add to what you already know.
Thanks to Toni of Make It Perfect, who has organised a huge master list of all those participating in auctions, raffles and giveaways to help raise money for those in need.

I am holding a raffle, because I felt it meant that more people could be involved.
Please read carefully:

  • This giveaway is open to everyone no matter where you live.
  • I will cover all postage costs.
  • To enter this giveaway you must donate $5 Australian Dollars to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.
  • You may enter as many times as you like but each entry / donation must have a separate receipt number. (eg: donate $5 ten times if you want to donate $50- then comment ten times with your receipt number) After you have done this , return here and leave your comment with your receipt number.
  • The raffle begins from today and will end at midnight (Netherlands Time) on Monday 24th January 2011. Extended by Toni’s request until Midday Wednesday 26th Jan 2011
  • At the close of the raffle, I will contact the winner (please make sure you put your email address in the form when you complete your comment, so I can contact you if you win!)

I will be raffling some pretty summer bunting, made from pretty dutch fabric. Perfect to hang around your home at any time of the year to add a bit of sunshine. The bunting is nearly 3 metres long and has 10 double sided flags on it.

Summer Garden

I dropped my camera a week ago (AHHH!!) and it was so badly damaged that I had to go out and buy a new one. At the weekend  I went out into the garden and had a practice with all the different settings.

Daisies in the lawn

Remember we rent our house – hence the poorly maintained lawn we inherited.

Pot of colour by the bench at the front door

This pot sits by the bench and lounger right outside the front door. It is a great place to sit because the sun is on this spot most of the day.

I have picked some of the bright pink flower heads and have them on the coffee table in the lounge, they look so pretty.

I love the mix of the pink and the blue.

And finally the bees are loving the flowering marjoram at the moment.

Most of the garden is made up of evergreen shrubs so there is little colour, but these few splashes of colour really make you realise that it is summer and it is beautiful.

Picnic in the tulips

I know, I know the song is tiptoe through the tulips, but I like to sing “picnic in the tulips”, when I’m having a picnic in at the edge of the bulb fields.

What do you think? Pretty spectacular, I think. The weather on the weekend was glorious and there were a lot of other people driving around the bulb fields soaking up all that colour. I’m glad we went.

I’ve been tagged twice

The Silver Spider tagged me and I have never been tagged before so I thought I would give it a go!

Here are the rules:
Link to the person who tagged you.
Mention the rules.
Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself.
Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that let’s them know they’ve been tagged.

1. I am a control freak – i don’t even let my husband drive!

2. I like my food in it’s ‘original’ flavour, eg. vanilla ice cream, jam doughnuts, natural yoghurt, ready salted crisps.

3. I can fall asleep on the sofa most evenings but then when I go up to bed I can’t go to sleep for AGES.

4. I love watching TV, but feel guilty about just sitting there and doing nothing which is why I taught myself to crochet a few months ago.

5. My hair frizzes up at the mere whiff of a damp day. (Everyday was a bad hair day when we lived in Singapore)

6. My husband and I have been married 11 years and have moved house 9 times.

My bloggers to tag are:

Do you mind if I knit

Lime and Lemon

I’m a Ginger Monkey

Dutch Colours

Little cherry hill

Stop staring and Start Sewing

Secondly Tamara gave me this award! Thanks – I love your blog too, its great to be working on similar projects don’t you think?

Part of this award means you have to list five addictions

1) Fabric – I need fabric, I spend hours searching the Internet for fabric because the local shops are a little too dated for me.

2) Tea and Cake. I love tea and love cake, they make the perfect combination in my book, there is nothing more to say.

3) Travel. I love to travel and have been so lucky to see so much. I am looking forward to our summer holiday when we will be touring the German Fairytale Route.

4) Books. Unfortunately there are few English language books available locally so I have to buy books on-line. It is not the same as being in the bookstore but it is still pure pleasure to get the crisp new books out of the box and devour at leisure. (Usually with a cup of tea and a piece of cake)

5) Family. My husband and children are everything to me, I adore spending time with them, having fun together. Perfect.

Now 5 more to pass this on to

Hen House

Lace Hearts

Vintage Amethyst

Moogs Mum

Miss Behave

So there you have it. More information than I would normally give out – but hey you’re all friends right???

Crochet and a successful gift

So you want to know here I do my crochet, hey?

Well I sit in this chair, mainly at night, because I like to sew during the day. ( I will show you my sewing room another day). This spot gets lots of light from that large lamp and there is also a lamp on the side table, so I can see what I am doing. I am still not sure how big I should make it, I just think I will keep going until I am satisfied that I will be snugly and warm on a chilly night. I also don’t think the hex blanket will live on the back of this chair when it is finished but at the moment I love walking into the lounge and seeing it’s splendid colourful self staring at me.

Speaking of colourful things – this pretty drawstring bag was a hit with my daughters 5 year old friend the other day. It was her birthday and I made a headband and some hair bands in the spotty fabric.

Until next time……
